New working models require new office furniture.

The various unit components can be combined into a whole, thereby enabling various work situations to be depicted in a consistent design signature. At the centre of attention is the overall impact of the furniture in the space; the individual object moves into the background.

The distinguishing feature with high recognition value is the distinctive Y-shaped table frame, as well as the recurring rounded corner radius.

Collins, Hamburg

Open Commerce.

Behind the Collins project is an e-commerce start-up of the Otto Group that intends to change shopping for the digital generation with new approaches. Numerous employees work worldwide on the technological platform of various shops – for this, the Hamburg colleagues have been sitting on unit bench furnishings of planmöbel since the end of 2014.

The approximately 3 000 m² open-space concept in Hamburg and the light planning that is coordinated with this originates from the PLY company, which is also based in Hamburg. PLY supervises furnishing processes from the concept to implementation and regards itself as an independent planner, advisor and supplier, who functionally and individually equips and furnishes with vintage, as well as newly produced furnishings and lighting. This mix also distinguishes the new offices of Collins, which offer space for up to 250 employees.

Three building sections of different types of construction and different ages have been functionally and visually developed together. Diagonal concrete posts in one building and historically tiled façades in the old building formed the brackets within which the future home of Collins was to be developed. The sand-blasted, old concrete surfaces were countered with a coarse meshed carpet, open-pore wood bring warmth into the functional environment. The answer is an almost homely colour and light concept combined with clear functionality.

In addition to the height-adjustable unit benches from planmöbel, at which work is performed in teams, on three storeys, there are various retreat areas, such as niches, small gardens with Eames swings, telephone cells and various meeting situations, as well as generously-sized kitchens and cafeterias.
